iZZi Network Wireless Broadband 1st Review
October 1st, 2007After throwing out TMNet Streamyx broadband out of the window, I decided to take iZZi Mobile Wireless Service that offers up to 1 Mbit/s download speed and give a test run.
iZZi wireless broadband is powered by iBurst technology. iBurst technology is a mobile broadband wireless access system that was first developed by ArrayComm. Currently deployed iBurst systems allow connectivity up to 1 Mbit/s for each subscriber equipment. Apparently there will be future firmware upgrade possibilities to increase these speeds up to 5 Mbit/s. For more info on iBurst technology, please refer to Wikipedia by clicking here.
Ok lah.. Enough of the technical mumbo jambo…lets get back to the iZZi stuff. Basically you have 3 types of package to choose from namely iZZiOne, iZZiYou and iZZiPro.
iZZiOne – Modem connected to pc/notebook via a PCMCIA card slot.
iZZiYou – Modem connected to pc/notebook via USB cable.
iZZiPro – A desktop terminal unit, connected to pc/notebook via standard network UTP cable. ( like a normal wireless broadband router).
I decided to take the iZZione package and I called one of their reseller, and this chap by the name of Edmund Wong agreed to deliver it personally to my office at no extra cost. I’m impressed by this type of customer service. That’s the way business should be done.
The installation was super simple even a non IT chap can do it on their own. Unlike other providers, you don’t even have to bother with the Windows network setting such as changing the DNS name and the TCP/IP address.
The best thing I like is you can start using it on the spot after the registration process is completed. Compares to others, you probably need to wait between 24 - 48 hrs before it can be used. No wonder they named iy iZZi, they do live up to their name. Easy!
3 simple iZZi steps involved:-
Step 1:
Insert the installation CD and follow the detailed guide on the screen.
Step 2:
Take out the CD and insert the PCMCIA card into the notebook.
Step 3:
Run the dialer and follow on the registration guide to complete the subscription and activating it.
After activation, I tested the speed of it. To my amazement, the speed are superb in my office here at Desa Sri Hartamas. I downloaded a 20Mb file from my private web site and the download speed do reached 1Mbit/s (1oooKbps = 1Mbits). See below image.
I will further test their wireless broadband connectivity in some other areas over the next few weeks and see how it goes. Anyway, iZZi covered most of the area in Klang valley and in the process of moving to Penang and Johor Bahru. Click here to see the iZZi Klang Valley Coverage Map.
My Personal verdict:-
Pro:
- Price is affordable and reasonable for a total mobility wireless connection of 1Mbit/s.
- PCMCIA, USB and desktop terminal are free and come with 1 year warranty. Others operator would require you to buy the PCMCIA card or terminal separately at around RM800++.
- Installation and activation process are simple and fast.
- Able to use the services on the spot. No need to wait.
Cons:
- Have to pay the one year subscription fees in full upon signing up. However, you can sign-up for 0% interest free installment scheme via selected credit card. They also offering Money Back Guaranteed of 100% refund within 7 days, 75% refund within 3 months and 50% refund within 6 months.
- Each user account (login id) is tagged to the device serial number. It’s impossible to use your account with others devices.
iZZi wireless broadband service are operated by iZZinet Sdn Bhd (formerly known as MoBif Wireless Broadband Sdn Bhd). If you interested to know more about their company and detailed packages info, please visit their website at www.izzi.net.my.

I tried getting izzi. Salesperson had difficulty installing it into my notebook. I am using a Mac G4. Anyone has similar problem installing izzi on their Mac G4 notebook? If not, how did you get around the problem?

Hi Andrew..
I didn’t encounter any problem with the installation. It get working right away after the driver installation and registration process. However, i’m using it on my Leveno notebook.
I think, your problem is the iZZi driver software that didn’t support Mac. Have you try to contact the technical team for a Mac book driver?
